This Pride Month, together with your students, dive into the history of the Gay Rights Movement and the incredible progress that’s been made by activists in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.

This poem appeared in Leaves of Grass, a collection of Walt Whitman’s poetry, some of which discusses romantic relationships between men. Although Whitman never publicly addressed his sexual orientation, many scholars believe he was romantically involved with a man named Peter Doyle.
