Imagine yourself giving a lesson in front of your whiteboard. You might be writing an equation, drawing a picture, or just writing down notes. So many possibilities, right?
A whiteboard is a key tool for many teachers, and some might say they can’t teach without it. As more and more teachers choose to give their lessons asynchronously, it’s important to have the right tools to create amazing video lessons.
With Edpuzzle and Explain Everything’s new integration, creating interactive whiteboard videos and assigning them to your class has never been easier!
Read on to find out more about what you can do with digital whiteboard videos and how to upload them to Edpuzzle.
What is Explain Everything?
Explain Everything is an interactive whiteboard platform that lets you create dynamic presentations. How dynamic you ask? Let’s just say, this isn’t your typical PowerPoint.
Think of Explain Everything as an infinite canvas. You can upload documents, slides, images, and videos from cloud sources and help bring life to your presentation.
If you run out of space on your presentation, you can simply zoom in and out to use another corner of your canvas (it really is infinite!).
Once you’ve prepped your materials, you can use EE’s integrated screen-recording tool to record your whiteboard video. When you’re done, the easy-to-use editing tools let you create a quality video that will impress and engage your class.
An added bonus is that Explain Everything is available on iOS and Android devices, as well as in a web browser. This gives you the freedom to work on your video wherever and whenever is most convenient for you!
How to Use Explain Everything in the Classroom
Lessons
If you’re a flipped learning fan, you’ll love all the possibilities for recording your lesson in Explain Everything. You have the power to make any topic interesting with a variety of tools available at your fingertips (literally).
Visualize your lesson any way you like with Explain Everything’s drawing toolset. Math and science teachers will enjoy the freedom to write in any type of equation or formula with the pencil feature.
Want to keep the video personal? Try embedding a video of yourself as you explain the content you’re teaching.
Stories
Want to try your hand at storytelling? Explain Everything gives you the opportunity to bring a story (real or imaginary) to life!
Stories inspire the imagination and encourage students to communicate. They also help them remember concepts using visuals such as infographics, sketch-notes, drawings, and much more.
Whether it’s elementary or high school students, you’ll be able to immerse them in a whole other world. They won’t just feel like they're in front of a whiteboard, they’ll feel like they’re living the lesson!
Visual Feedback
Feedback can transform a student’s learning process. Consider making your feedback a visual experience by recording a video!
Upload examples of student work and go over what they did right and what they can do to improve. Not only does this video clear up any misunderstandings, but it can also be the foundation for your next lesson. Two birds, one stone!
The content will feel personalized and make your students feel like they are in the same room with you. That’s something a red pen could never do.

Upload to Edpuzzle
Giving your students a dynamic video to watch at home is great. But how do you hold them accountable for completing the assignment? That’s where we come in.
Edpuzzle lets you add comprehension questions, view who has watched your video, prevent skipping, and more!
Once you’ve set up your Edpuzzle account, you’ll be able to upload your Explain Everything videos to Edpuzzle directly from your iPad/tablet. Here’s how:
- Tap on the Share button.
- Select Export and choose Video as your file’s format.
- Choose Edpuzzle as the destination.
And that's it! The video will be immediately uploaded to your My Content page in Edpuzzle.
Using Explain Everything in a web browser? No problem! Create a Web Video Link once you finish your recording. Then just download the mp4 file and upload the video to Edpuzzle manually.
Edit and Assign in Edpuzzle
Now it’s time to turn your EE video into an engaging video lesson! In Edpuzzle, you can strategically put in questions anywhere throughout your video by following these steps:
- Find and click on the video in your "My Content" area.
- Check the box below the video and select "Edit" from the bottom menu to go to the video editor.
- From here, click on "Questions" to embed questions in the video and customize it for your students. You can also add notes (regular or with audio).
- Click “Finish” at the top right corner of your screen once you're done editing.
Once your video lesson is polished and ready to go, all that’s left to do is assign it to your students! As your students start watching your videos and answering the questions, you’ll be able to see their results in real time.
From there, Edpuzzle provides you with detailed analytics. The Gradebook feature gives you data on how many questions each student answered correctly, how many times they viewed each portion of the video and how much time they took to complete it.
With all that information, you’ll know exactly what material to cover in your next digital whiteboard video!
Using Edpuzzle and Explain Everything is an easy way to make the video-viewing experience more engaging for your students, whether you're in the classroom or teaching remotely.
